When you work at home, spending a lot of time in a seated position in front of the computer might bring some heavy consequences to your overall health. So what can we do? Nowadays working out is no longer just an option to maintain a healthy lifestyle, it’s a necessary part of balanced self care. At WAHspace we want everyone to succeed in their work at home career, so we’ve assembled some great tips on how to stay fit when you work at home.
Have a Virtual Workout Buddy
Many traditional workplaces offer wellness programs that include walking clubs and exercise accountability groups. Not only do these things keep employees healthy, but they also build a sense of team and community. Working remotely doesn’t mean that you have to miss out on the benefits of exercising with your coworkers – it just looks a little different. You can still partner up with a team member to keep each other on track with exercise goals and celebrate each other’s workout successes. Use chat rooms and other company communication channels to stay in touch and report in on how that new yoga class was last night.
Dress for Success
Sometimes half the battle is just getting dressed in the right outfit and when you work at home, you can wear your workout clothes as your work clothes as well! Getting dressed in comfortable workout gear in the morning will help ensure that you are ready to go when your scheduled exercise time draws near. There are no excuses to not go for that walk or run when you are already wearing your t-shirt and tennis shoes!
Choose Your Seat Wisely
Add in some isometric muscle and core work by replacing your standard desk chair with an inflatable exercise stability ball, at least for part of your work day. Or experiment with something entirely different – try using a standing desk to burn a few more calories while you are working away. At a minimum, your work at home chair should be adjustable to support you ergonomically and provide support for your spine and lumbar region.
No matter what you choose to do, commit to your overall health and well being through an exercise routine and stick to it. To connect with others who are interested in staying fit while they work from home, visit www.wahspace.com.
