Healthy Snacks: Staples for Working at Home

Posted By Community Editor, Monday, March 14, 2016

Staying healthy while working at home is an important aspect of delivering great performance on and off the clock.  Good health begins with fueling your body with the right foods to stay focused, and that includes health snacking.  Here are four of the best foods to snack on to boost your energy levels and be ready to work throughout the day with real sustained energy.

These handy grab-and-go foods are rich with Omega 3s and Vitamin B. While Vitamin B can help us focus, concentrate and fuels our body with energy making us feel good, Omega 3s can influence our brain activity, behavior and attention span, all great ingredients to ensure work at home success.  Just be careful with portion size, because while nutritionally complex, nuts are also high in calories.

We’ve all seen those candy bar commercials where they show that “you’re not really you, when you’re hungry” and been enticed to reach for a sugary treat or other quick energy fix. Although sugar – and even coffee - can give you an immediate buzz, real energy comes from foods that are full of fiber and protein. A delicious way that you can get both is by trying apples with some peanut butter, which have fiber and protein respectively while also providing quick energy for your metabolism.

Berries are very rich in antioxidants and are very good for your brain function. That is one of the reasons why berries are considered brain food, but most of all they’re fresh, handy and so delicious that they will make you feel like you’re treating yourself.  Try popping them in the freezer for even more enjoyment!

Dark Chocolate

Chocolate, really? Yes, but just a little bit. In controlled amounts chocolate is great energy provider, it can help release endorphins and boost immunity. Plus, it tastes great!  Being healthy is not about having to eat foods that are unpleasant; instead it is about making smart choices.  Grabbing just a bit of dark chocolate can go a long way on your most challenging days.

Remember to always plan ahead to have these and other nutritious and convenient snacks on hand. For more information about being healthy, successful and having a great work at home career, visit wahspace.com.
